From NYC to South Carolina

Let me start with some background information about me.  My name is Amy.  I am a New Yorker born and raised.  After 39 years and a brush with cancer (more on that later) my family and I decided to leave the city and move down to the country.  If I'm being honest, it's not the country.  I am in Fort Mill, SC.  Is it more country than NYC?  YES! It has more of a small town feel, which is what I was used to growing up in Staten Island, before it became overpopulated and depressing.

Anywho, lets get to the real reason I am here.  I have a question for you guys.  How do I make friends? I've been living here for almost a month.  My children have started school.  I have joined the PTA, I have tried to volunteer and I am looking for groups via social media.  It is way harder than I thought it was going to be.  Back in NY I was much more reserved and standoffish.  Here, I wanted to change myself, reinvent myself if you may, but it seems that the people here are reserved and standoffish.  Ironic, huh?
